My name is Jane Smith and in 2016, in search of a new hobby, I went to a local craft fair and bought my first felting kit. I made a passable picture using the wet felting method and then decided it needed some embellishments which I embroidered on (I was a keen embroiderer in my teens and twenties). The results were ok for a first attempt but wet felting was quite hard work and wasn't something I could easily put down and come back to later.
Then another wool felter I met suggested needle felting and, after a bit of research on the internet, the purchase of some colourful wool samples and specialist needles I soon became addicted to creating all sorts of flora and fauna. The beauty of it was I could pick it up, put it down, do whatever else needed my attention and then go back to it whenever I wanted without it all going horribly wrong!
The more I did, the better I became and eventually I began to sell my work at local craft fairs. In 2018 I managed to get a coveted stall at Clare Priory Craft Fair which was a little scary because it was so much bigger and busier than anywhere I had sold before but it went well enough for me to be invited back in 2019 and 2020 (sadly cancelled due to COVID-19).
As well as selling at fairs I also do private commissions and have made various models of pets and pictures as well as nursery mobiles on themes such as cats, superheroes, Indian elephants and Pokemon characters.
.....within reason!
